เมื่อวันที่ 9 เมษายน 2569 นางสาวรุจิกร แสงจันทร์ อธิบดีกรมเศรษฐกิจระหว่างประเทศ ได้พบหารือผ่านระบบการประชุมทางไกลกับนาย John Goyer รองประธานด้านเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้และโอเชียเนีย หอการค้าสหรัฐอเมริกา (U.S. Chamber of Commerce: USCC) เรื่องการสมัครเข้าเป็นสมาชิกองค์การ เพื่อความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจและการพัฒนา (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development: OECD) ของไทย

อธิบดีกรมเศรษฐกิจฯ ได้ให้ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับความคืบหน้าของกระบวนการเข้าเป็นสมาชิก OECD ของไทย ซึ่งปัจจุบันอยู่ในขั้นตอนการประเมินทางเทคนิค (Technical Review) โดยคณะกรรมการของ OECD 25 คณะ เพื่อปรับปรุงกฎหมาย นโยบาย และแนวปฏิบัติของไทยให้สอดคล้องกับมาตรฐานที่เกี่ยวข้องของ OECD โดยนาย Goyer ได้สนับสนุนการสมัครเป็นสมาชิก OECD ของไทย และเห็นพ้องว่า ทั้งสองฝ่ายสามารถร่วมมือกันเพิ่มเติมในประเด็นที่เป็นผลประโยชน์ร่วมกันใน OECD อาทิ AI สาธารณสุข ห่วงโซ่อุปทาน และแร่ธาตุสำคัญ

นอกจากนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายยังได้หารือถึงการส่งเสริมความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจระหว่างไทยกับหอการค้าสหรัฐฯ อาทิ การจัดงาน Thailand - US Trade & Investment Summit ที่กรุงเทพฯ ในเดือนสิงหาคม 2569 การนำคณะผู้แทนภาคธุรกิจสหรัฐฯ รายสาขาเยือนไทย รวมทั้งความเป็นไปได้ในการจัดกิจกรรมคู่ขนานในช่วงการประชุม IMF - World Bank Annual Meetings ที่ไทยจะเป็นเจ้าภาพในเดือนตุลาคม ศกนี้

อนึ่ง การเข้าเป็นสมาชิก OECD เป็นวาระแห่งชาติของไทย โดยเมื่อวันที่ 9 เมษายน 2569 ในการแถลงนโยบายของรัฐบาลต่อรัฐสภา นายอนุทิน ชาญวีรกูล นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้ย้ำเป้าหมายในการผลักดันไทยเข้าเป็นสมาชิก OECD ภายในปี 2571 เพื่อเพิ่มขีดความสามารถในการแข่งขันและเสริมสร้างสภาพแวดล้อมทางธุรกิจที่เอื้ออำนวยของไทย

On 9 April 2026, Ms. Rujikorn Saengchantr, Director-General of the International Economic Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, had a discussion via videoconference with Mr. John Goyer, Vice President of Southeast Asia and Oceania, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (USCC), on Thailand’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The Director-General provided an update on Thailand’s OECD accession progress where Thailand is currently in a technical review phase.  It is being reviewed by 25 OECD Committees to ensure Thailand’s alignment with relevant OECD standards and practices.  The USCC Executive expressed support for Thailand’s OECD accession and concurred that both sides should further enhance cooperation on issues of mutual interest within the OECD framework such as AI, healthcare, supply chains and critical minerals.

Furthermore, both sides discussed ways to further strengthen Thailand’s bilateral economic cooperation with the USCC.  These include the organisation of a Thailand - U.S. Trade & Investment Summit in Bangkok in August 2026, the visits to Thailand of US business delegations and the possibility of holding side events on the sidelines of the IMF - World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok in October 2026.

Joining the OECD has been Thailand’s national agenda. During the new administration’s presentation of its policy statement at the Parliament on 9 April 2026, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul reaffirmed the Royal Thai Government’s commitment to achieving OECD membership by 2028.  This national endeavour is not only to enhance Thailand’s overall competitiveness but also foster a more conducive business environment.
