เมื่อวันที่ 3 เมษายน 2568 ไทยในฐานะประธานบิมสเทคเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการประชุมระดับรัฐมนตรีบิมสเทค ครั้งที่ 20 โดยมีนายมาริษ เสงี่ยมพงษ์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศเป็นประธาน และนายชุตินทร คงศักดิ์ เลขานุการรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ เข้าร่วมในฐานะผู้แทนฝ่ายไทย ที่ประชุมได้พิจารณาเอกสารและข้อตัดสินใจสำคัญๆ ของบิมสเทคเพื่อเตรียมการประชุมผู้นำบิมสเทค ครั้งที่ 6 ในวันที่ 4 เมษายน 2568 และเห็นชอบเอกสารสำคัญ 19 ฉบับ ซึ่งรวมถึงแผนปฏิบัติการในสาขาความร่วมมือต่างๆ เช่น วิทยาศาสตร์ เทคโนโลยีและนวัตกรรม และการพัฒนาศักยภาพมนุษย์ นอกจากนี้ ที่ประชุมยังได้หารือเกี่ยวกับความร่วมมือในการบริหารจัดการภัยพิบัติ สืบเนื่องจากเหตุแผ่นดินไหวในเมียนมาและไทยเมื่อวันที่ 28 มีนาคม 2568 ก่อนการประชุม รัฐมนตรีบิมสเทคได้ลงนามความตกลงว่าด้วยความร่วมมือว่าด้วยการขนส่งทางทะเล เพื่อเสริมสร้างความเชื่อมโยงทางทะเลในภูมิภาค และมีพิธีลงนามบันทึกความเข้าใจระหว่างบิมสเทคกับสมาคมแห่งภูมิภาคมหาสมุทรอินเดีย (IORA) และบิมสเทคกับสำนักงานว่าด้วยยาเสพติดและอาชญากรรมแห่งสหประชาชาติ (UNODC) ซึ่งจะส่งเสริมปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างองค์กร และบทบาทของบิมสเทคในเวทีระหว่างประเทศ
On 3 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiamponsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting. H.E. Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended as representative of Thailand’s Minister. The Meeting considered important documents and decisions in preparation for the 6th BIMSTEC Summit on 4 April 2025. Ministers endorsed 19 key documents; including Plans of Action in the various sectors of cooperation including Science, Technology and Innovation, and Human Resource Development. Notably, discussions were also held on disaster management, especially given the impact of the recent earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Before the meeting, the Ministers signed the BIMSTEC Agreement on Maritime Transport Cooperation, to strengthen maritime connectivity within BIMSTEC. Afterwards, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BIMSTEC and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the MoU between BIMSTEC and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), were signed. The MoU’s will strengthen inter-agency cooperation and enhance BIMSTEC’s role in the international arena.
