เมื่อวันพุธที่ 20 พฤษภาคม 2569 นางสาลินี ผลประไพ รองอธิบดีกรมเศรษฐกิจระหว่างประเทศพร้อมด้วยเจ้าหน้าที่ที่เกี่ยวข้องจากกรมเศรษฐกิจระหว่างประเทศ กรมองค์การระหว่างประเทศกรมความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศ และสถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงลอนดอน เข้าร่วมการประชุมหารือเกี่ยวกับแนวทางสนับสนุนการลงสมัครรับเลือกตั้งเป็นสมาชิกคณะมนตรีองค์การทางทะเลระหว่างประเทศ (International Maritime Organisation หรือ IMO) วาระปี ค.ศ. 2028 - 2029 รวมถึงแนวทางการกำหนดท่าทีและยุทธศาสตร์ของไทย โดยมีนายณัฐวัฒน์ กฤษณามระ เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงลอนดอนเป็นประธานการประชุม

ที่ประชุมได้แลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับการถอดบทเรียนจากการเลือกตั้งที่ผ่านมา พร้อมหารือแนวทางเดินหน้าต่อไป เช่น การชูจุดขายเชิงยุทธศาสตร์ของไทย อาทิ ด้านโลจิสติกส์และการเชื่อมโยงภูมิภาค ความมั่นคงทางทะเลและพลังงาน สิ่งแวดล้อมทางทะเลและการเปลี่ยนผ่านพลังงานสีเขียว ตลอดจนการเสริมสร้างศักยภาพและความร่วมมือทางวิชาการ การขับเคลื่อนการรณรงค์หาเสียง การเสริมสร้างความร่วมมือจากภาคเอกชนทั้งนี้ เพื่อเสริมสร้างบทบาทของไทยในฐานะประเทศที่มีส่วนร่วมอย่างแข็งขันในการกำกับดูแลกิจการทางทะเลระหว่างประเทศ

อนึ่ง IMO มีความสำคัญต่อผลประโยชน์ของไทย โดยเฉพาะในบริบทที่สถานการณ์ความมั่นคงทางทะเลระหว่างประเทศมีความซับซ้อนมากขึ้น และส่งผลต่อเสรีภาพในการเดินเรือ ความปลอดภัยของลูกเรือห่วงโซ่อุปทาน โลจิสติกส์ และความมั่นคงทางพลังงานของไทย โดยกรมเศรษฐกิจระหว่างประเทศจะติดตามการดำเนินงานภายใต้คณะกรรมการแห่งชาติเพื่อประสานงานกับ IMO และบูรณาการประเด็น IMO ในการหารือทวิภาคีและเวทีระหว่างประเทศที่เกี่ยวข้องต่อไป

On Wednesday, 20 May 2026, Ms. Salinee Phonprapai, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, together with relevant officials from the Department of International Economic Affairs, the Department of International Organisations, and the Department of International Cooperation, attended a consultative meeting on approaches to support Thailand's candidacy for membership in the Council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) for the term 2028 – 2029. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Ambassador of Thailand to the United Kingdom, to discuss Thailand's position and campaign strategy for the upcoming IMO Council election.

The meeting reviewed lessons learned from the previous election
and discussed ways to formulate Thailand’s position and adjust its campaign strategy, the discussion covered Thailand’s strength on logistics and connectivity, discussed key points including, maritime and energy security, the marine environment and green energy transition, as well as capacity-building and technical cooperation; campaign mechanism and strategy, and enhancing cooperation with the private sector in the maritime supply chain. These efforts aim to strengthen Thailand’s role as an active participant in international maritime governance.

The IMO is increasingly important in the advancement of Thailand’s interests, particularly in the context of an increasingly complex international maritime security landscape, which may affect freedom of navigation, the safety of seafarers, supply chains, logistics, and Thailand’s energy security. The Department of International Economic Affairs will continue to follow up on developments under the National Committee for Coordination with IMO and integrate IMO-related issues into relevant bilateral discussions and international fora.
